The Autism Revolution:

Empowered Parents, Recovered Children!

The Autism Revolution is a book that will change lives on two fronts. Filled with hands-on strategies, checklists and positive, proactive ideas, it gives parents the tools and instructions they need to step onto the road to recovery for their child, and healing for their family and martial relationship. Although knowledge is power, outward actions and checklists are not enough. The Autism Revolution will be provocative enough to assert that an inner shift in attitudes and perceptions in parents and the medical establishment is needed today, and that only through this paradigm shift will real and lasting change take place.

Parents of recovered children all share certain personality traits that drive them onward despite the obstacles they encounter. The Autism Revolution describes the personal characteristics of these empowered parents, and teaches every parent of a diagnosed child to become captain and commander of their child's journey. In the process they will become confident and self-assured decision makers in steering their child toward improvement and even possible recovery from autism.

The Autism Revolution will demonstrate that while children are being diagnosed with autism at an alarming rate (currently 1 in every 91 children in the U.S.) there is reason to HOPE and no longer view the diagnosis as a death sentence.

In the process of writing this book I was challenged on my assertion that all parents - not just certain types of parents - can help their child recover or develop to their fullest potential in life. It's an understandable reaction, one shared - sometimes only in private - among many. There's a huge amount of guilt, mixed with skepticism, some parents feel when they stumble into a conversation about a child having recovered, especially if their child is nowhere near recovery. So, just saying, "My child recovered...yours can too" can fall on deaf or skeptical ears. To embrace the possibility of real recovery means they have to agree to do the work. This means they have to do something different than what they have become used to doing (whether or not it's been effective). Patterns of thinking and acting can be difficult to break, even when the current methods are not working. The Autism Revolution will be a practical, inspirational guide that shows them how to begin the mindshift from victim of autism to empowered parent. This is a mindshift that will eventually lead them to take the necessary steps toward helping their child improve or eventually recover.

It's truly miraculous to witness even one child recovered from autism. Multiply this by the hundreds of thousands of children around the world affected by this disorder and what starts as The Autism Revolution may quickly transform into the most significant movement of our times within the autism community.
